Air gets to the fruit
The open rattan structure lets air move around what is inside, so bananas and apples stay in better condition than they do in a sealed bowl.
Made by hand, not moulded
Each basket is woven from natural rattan, so the texture and grain vary slightly from one to the next. That is the point rather than a flaw.
Warmth on a plain worktop
Natural fibre brings some softness to a kitchen full of hard surfaces, which is why Vellhaven keeps the finish plain rather than varnished and shiny.
Our customers say it better than we can
Frequently Asked Questions
What is it made from?
Natural rattan, woven by hand. It is a light, strong fibre that has been used for storage for generations and ages into a warmer tone rather than looking worn out.
Why is the weave open?
Airflow keeps fruit fresher for longer by stopping moisture collecting underneath. A closed bowl traps that moisture, which is what starts the soft spots.
Can I use it for things other than fruit?
Yes. It works well for bread, onions and garlic, or as a general catch all for small items on a shelf or a hallway table.
How do I clean it?
Wipe it with a dry or barely damp cloth and let it air. Rattan does not like soaking, so keep water to a minimum and it will hold its shape for years.
Will each basket look the same?
Close, but not identical. Because it is handcrafted the weave carries small natural variations, which is exactly what gives each one its own character.
